It’s exciting that you are considering having your hearing assessed and we would love to meet you. Here are some things we’d like you to know:
Before Your Appointment
Many people find it’s helpful to bring a friend or family member to the appointment. If someone who is around you frequently attends with you, this provides a more comprehensive idea of what is going on in your life in relation to your hearing. Feel free to invite someone to come with you.
It’s also helpful if you take note of situations or environments where it’s challenging for you to hear. We commonly hear about the difficulty of understanding people in loud restaurants or parties. Others may say hearing the television or on the phone.
During Your Appointment
Like most health appointments, when you arrive, we will have some paperwork for you. (It’s part of our website if you’d like to do this at home before the appointment – either way is good for us.) Sometimes people find it easiest to bring a list of their medications with them to save them remembering them and writing them down in the office.
We will take the time to talk with you about your hearing as well as to examine your ears. After that, we will assess your hearing in a sound booth.
Finally, we will discuss your results with you and make any related recommendations. If hearing aids can help, your audiologist will review your options.
